Vasa Mihich (b. 1933) is an American artist and educator, renowned for his pioneering work with cast acrylic sculptures that explore color, light, and transparency. Academically trained as a painter, Mihich served as a senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also taught theories of color.
Since the late 1960s, Mihich has worked in his Los Angeles studio developing striking, geometric forms in transparent plastics, creating sculptures that interact dynamically with light and space. His work emphasizes the optical effects of color and form, positioning him as a leading innovator in the field of contemporary sculpture. Art critic Henry Seldis of the Los Angeles Times described Mihich as “the most sensuous and sensational colorist of the Southern California artists working in plastic.”
Mihich continues to experiment with acrylics and other media, producing work that remains both visually captivating and conceptually rigorous, securing his place among the foremost color-focused sculptors of his generation.
