Harris spent many of her formative years outside the United States, much of it spent in Germany and Italy, experiencing these years as a “third culture kid”. Whether it was race, language, nationality or culture she adapted and took interest in Mythology and myth making, which makes sense when one is struggling to find a way to process this in a creative way.
Description
In this piece we see elements that show up in other works by her. The diaphanous layers of imagery which feel ephemeral but reference layered experiences which transcend and change in our lives. The female often has a scarf which is swirling and ready to take flight as if part of the magical elements of the piece. Often there is a type of floating mist or particles amongst elements of mountains, peaks and or water. Strangely there are often a few blades of grass in her works as if in reference to the fact that there is specific footing and earth under the figures to suggest this is not completely celestial in nature.
