Malcolm Bray (1958) is an American painter and mixed-media artist known for his exploration of color, light, and abstraction within representational forms. Bray briefly attended Hull College of Art in 1977, where he explored graphic design, silkscreen printing, and oil painting. In 1991, he settled in Lambertville, NJ, in the historic Spoke Works building, where he ran an import business within which he maintained a studio.
From 1994 to 2002, the space hosted numerous exhibitions, culminating in New Eclectic, a group of ten artists with shared artistic vision. The group’s final shows were at MCS Gallery in Easton, PA,and West Chester University in 2004. That same year, Bray sold his business to focus fully on painting.
Influenced by the New York School, Bray's work garnered attention from prominent galleries. Represented by Cheryl Hazan in New York and galleries in New Jersey, his paintings were showcased in a 2011 group exhibition at Spanierman Gallery in New York, featuring three of his large works.
Born in Kingston upon Hull, England, Bray moved to the U.S. in 1984 and became a citizen in 2005. He now resides in the Delaware Valley, in Bucks and Hunterdon counties.
