Artist

Caio Fonseca (b. 1959, Uruguay) is a contemporary American painter known for his refined abstract works that explore the interplay of form, color, and space. The son of the artist Gonzalo Fonseca, Caio grew up immersed in an artistic environment, which informed his lifelong engagement with painting. Over the course of his career, he has developed a distinctive visual language that balances minimalism, rhythm, and subtle tonal variation.

Fonseca’s work often draws on the principles of classical music and mathematical structure, giving his compositions a sense of harmony and proportion. His paintings are celebrated for their quiet yet powerful presence, with layered forms and tonal contrasts creating meditative, contemplative experiences for viewers.

Fonseca’s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in major museum collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He lives and works in New York City, continuing to refine his abstract vision with a focus on painting as an independent medium.
