Émile Gilioli
French, 1911–1963Overview
Gilioli is a sculptor that made a unique addition to the French landscape of minimalist and abstract sculpture. His forms in bronze and marble were stripped down to very essential forms that have a purity of intent to them. This piece with its title of Forme is a classic work by him. Some of his shapes are organic but this one is slightly architectural and he believed in a collaboration between art and architecture. Works such as this speak to the 1960’s and exploration of this avant-garde movement in sculpture.
