Very little is known about the life and work of Louis Jacquand who was active from 1870-1900. The kind of genre picture that was extremely popular in the latter part of the 19^th century when Jacquand was active  reflects a taste for the detailed portrayal of a dignified courtliness and gentility amongst the upper classes and their surroundings.
