Paul Raymond Seaton

British, b. 1953

Overview

Paul Paymond Seaton (b. 1953) initially pursued mathematics, graduating from Exeter University in 1980. After brief stints in teacher training, busking, and stately home minding, he reflected, “discovered the error of my ways and turned to paint brushes, silence and tranquility.” Since 1984, Seaton has been an active exhibitor at the Whitechapel Open, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Mall Galleries, and the Royal Academy. His first solo exhibition took place at the Dive Gallery in Muswell Hill.

Seaton’s work is primarily held in private collections across Europe, the United States, and Australia. Living in London, he continues to explore still lifes and other quietly observed subjects, emphasizing subtlety, composition, and atmosphere. Writing for the Daily Telegraph in June 1992, critic Richard Dorment remarked on Seaton’s work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition:

This year I found only a few paintings that really made the heart leap, and there was something fresh and observed about a little still life by Paul Raymond Seaton."
