Born in Charleston IL, in 1928, Alice Baber’s artistic career mirrored that of many of her contemporaries. Her interest in art was apparent at a young age, formally studying art by the age of twelve she was soon enrolling in college level classes. Interrupted by WWII Baber resumed her studies, receiving a Master’s degree in 1951. Traveling throughout Europe in the 1950s she was briefly enrolled in the École des Beaux-Arts earning a living as a writer and art editor, mounting her first solo show in New York in 1958. Baber exhibited widely throughout the United States and Europe through the 60s and 70s residing between New York and Paris, traveling extensively through Latin America in the late 1970s lecturing on American art for the US State Department.
