Uruguayan painter Pedro Figari worked for the greater portion of his life as lawyer, writer, and politician only turning his attention to full time painting in his later years, He is best known as an early modernist who placed emphasis quotidian life. Painted primarily from memory, Figari’s work displays an intense personal feeling, capturing the essence of local customs, family gatherings, and personal memories of his childhood in Montevideo.
