Marie Weger was born in Munich, Germany, in 1882. She received her artistic training from her father, the painter Max Weger, as well as from Wilhelm von Dietz and Paul Nauren. She later continued her studies in Paris.
Weger’s first exhibition took place in 1907 at the Munich Art Society. She went on to show her work at prominent venues such as the Munich Glaspalast, the Major Exhibition in Berlin, and additional exhibitions in Vienna and Paris, before emigrating to the United States in 1930.
In the U.S., Weger remained an active participant in the art world, working with prestigious galleries and museum organizations. She exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Allied Artists of America, and the Kennedy Galleries in New York City. She was also commissioned to create portraits of notable figures, including Eleanor Roosevelt, the young Princess Elizabeth and Margaret of England, and renowned singer Marian Anderson.
While Weger’s portraiture was widely recognized, she is perhaps most cherished for her exquisite floral still-lifes, which remain her enduring legacy.
