Overview
Ruth Bernhard was a distinguished American photographer who lived and worked betwwen New York and California in the mid to late 20th century. Her career began in New York as an advertisiment photographer though after meeting Edward Weston in California in 1935 transitioned into fine art photography. Bernhard returned to New York in the late 1930s joining Alfred Stieglitz' circle though soon returned to California where she would spend much of the remainder of her long career.
