Overview
Charles-Louis Baugniet was a 19th century Belgian painter, watercolorist, and lithographer. He was known to paint the portraits of famous politicians, clergy, industrialists, professors, artists, actors, and society figures from Belgium, France and England. This kind of genre picture was extremely popular in the middle of the 19th century and reflected a taste for the detailed portrayal of a dignified courtliness and gentility amongst the upper classes.
